Alton Arts Festival will be a 10-day multi-discipline, multi-venue programme of music, literary events, theatre and visual arts, including a fringe programme and a children’s programme. The aim of the festival is to bring great art to the people of Alton and surrounding villages, and to give them the chance to experience and try things that they wouldn’t normally participate in. With that in mind, to make sure the festival is accessible to all, ticket prices will be kept low (or free) and a range of events held at different times. From a visual arts perspective, it is planned to give people a chance to have a go at different painting techniques, perhaps some sculpting, or other types of making through workshops, demonstrations and tutorials. It is hoped that local art will be exhibited at venues around town.
Alton Art Society are planning to take part by running a painting and prosecco evening at a local wine bar and a workshop at the Allen Gallery. In addition, we are hoping to have displays of work around the town – but this is all in the planning stages.
The Arts Festival organising committee are looking for people to host events, run workshops or demonstrations or be on the committee for the Visual Arts strand.
