About the AAS

The Alton Art Society was formed in 1925 to promote the practice of creative arts in Alton and the surrounding area.

Open to all, we have a large and active membership.

Annual Exhibition

The largest event of the year is the Annual Exhibition of members' work, held in the Alton Assembly Rooms at the end of September/early October.

This is complemented by an extensive exhibition of children’s work submitted by almost all of the local schools.

A very high standard of painting, 3D work and other art forms are on display from both adults and young people.

Activities &
Events

There is a monthly programme of talks and demonstrations during the winter and a summer programme of meetings at various locations for members to paint together outside.

In addition, weekly indoor painting afternoons are held throughout the year, with short Summer and Christmas breaks.

The weekly painting group meets on Thursday afternoons, providing an informal opportunity to work in spacious surroundings with fellow artists.

A quarterly newsletter is distributed to members, giving information about Society activities and artistic opportunities in the area.
